|
|
Hello All,
I have had ideas for the this board for some time. Ideas of adding new features and expanding the boards usability. Problem is this board is running old software and is quite dated. I can upgrade the board from PhpBB2 to PhpBB3 and it will give us some benefits, but not everything I have had in mind.
The options:
1: leave everything the way it is, (which is fine by Christy and I)
2: make the jump to phpbb3 upgrade (similiar interface to what we already have, small benefit) The safest upgrade, but has the least potential.
3: scrape phpBB all together and move on to a more flexable software that will allow some social networking features that are lacking here, like members having their own blogs / wiki / galleries, and of course with our standard forum.
Whatever we do (or do not) the threads and posts on the current board will not be lost. They will come with us, as well as all the accounts. I will also try to keep it simliar to this board and SIMPLE.
I would just like to see what all you think about this............ |

If I can say...I think sometimes we stray off of what this board is really about, Draft horses and what we do with them...if we could get back on track and keep it that way, as there aren't many boards for draft horses and those who own them, that would be great. _________________ "He who is cruel to animals becomes hard also in his dealings with men. First, the posts (content) will be same whether here with phpBB or with the new software, but "how it will be displayed" will change. The new software will allow the moderators (and the users more control) over the posts and the content of the DHV website and how and where it will be displayed. The format we are using now is very limiting, its a message board. And it does what it does but thats basically it.
Second, Christy and I think the board is alittle bit more than just a drafthorse forum. Drafthorses have brought us all together, some of us in a round about way... but you do not need to have a drafthorse nor even a horse for that matter to be able to post here. And it will stay that way. |

I'm up for whatever you want to do provided I dont have to have a 100 page manual to be able to get through it.

I think the upgrade is a great idea, especially if it makes it easier for the administrators. _________________ If you're going to climb in the saddle, be ready for the ride. |

First, THANK YOU Frank and Christy for taking on the task of managing this board for us. For many of us it is so much more than just a message board: it's a place where we can meet new friends from all over the world, share our love of all kinds of horses, and follow along with those whose lives we've grown to know and love over the years. Thank you for clarifying that while the love of big horses brings us together, there is so much more than that we can find in common.
I will trust you to make the best decision for this board. I find it hard to understand that you would even be willing to spend the amount of time that you do on this. Please pick whatever will be the easiest for you in the long run.
Thanks again for everything!

| I am not sure if it is possible but what would be nice would be a search feature that could pull up old threads. |

the new software will allow me to create a very simple interface and an advance interface. But it will be very simple esp in the beginning. KISS. Then features will be added slowly.
If we do change software, I want it to resemble the phpbb as much as possible so the transition will be easier on everyone.. Themes will be added that will help this... for users that want it simple and those who do not mind the advance features.. |

easiest thing would be not to do anything, but I like challenge and I think everyone will benefit in the long run......... it would be alot easier for me to add features with the new software than with what we have now in the future... but it will be alot of work on my behave in the beginning |

there is a ton of knowledge on this board, and its not organized well and it is one of the things that can be enhanced with the new software (wiki/books) |
